FAQ's - UPDATED 3/3/2025
When does the season start?
Practices are set to begin the week of September 8, 2025. Senior groups may return Tuesday, September 2, after Labor Day which will be communicated by the coaches.
When will we know if our child made the team?
You will be contacted no later than Friday, August 8 at 8:00 p.m. with either an invite to join the team, a waitlist number should spots become available, or suggestions for next steps for your child. The last tryout is Monday, August 4, 2025.
How many spots are available this season?
Approximately 80 spots are available. Most open spots are in the 10 &under age groups.
If we are waitlisted, when will we know if we have a spot?
City of Mason Manta Ray staff will contact waitlist enrollments through Friday, August 22. After that date, we recommend looking into opportunities to improve swim skills in the Mason Swim Academy and to reach out to local teams until tryouts the following year.
What does the competition year look like?
The 2025-2026 season will run September through August 2026. Short course season is from September 2025 to March 2026. There will be a 2-week break in the spring and the long course season is from April 2026 – July 2026. Qualified Manta Ray swimmers may extend into August 2026.
Where are swim meets?
In previous years, Manta Rays have competed in meets at Silverlake Rec Center (Kentucky), Keating Natatorium, Miami University (Oxford), in Dayton at either the WTRC pool or Dayton Raiders pool, Cincinnati Country Day, and have a couple travel meets a year in either Indianapolis, Elkhart, Lexington, and Greensboro during long course season. The City of Mason hosts in-season meets in October, November, February, and June as well as possibly Ohio Short and Long Course Championship meets in March & July.
What is the practice schedule?
The practice schedule for the Fall will be posted as soon as possible. A tentative practice schedule is available on the Practice tab located on the team website.
Do you need to be a member of the Mason Community Center to swim for the Manta Rays?
Yes. Each City of Mason Manta Ray swimmer must maintain an active Community Center PREMIER membership for the duration of the competition year. You will need an active membership to register for the team should your athlete be offered a spot for the upcoming season. All Manta Rays participants must have a Mason Community Center Premier membership for the competition year.
Does the team require families to complete service hours?
Yes. Each family is required to complete a minimum of 35 hours per family over the course of the competition year. If you have multiple swimmers on the team, it is a total of 35 hours, not 35 hours per swimmer. Service hours can be completed by volunteering at meets, in the form of donations for meets or practice/group activities, as an USA official working the meets (training required), or you may choose to pay a fee to cover your hour requirement prior to the start of the season.
How is the Mason Manta Rays Team Unify website used?
Masonswimming.org is our team website used primarily for communication, meet entries, and meet fees. Should your swimmer earn an invite to join the program you will be set up with an account and receive an email with log in instructions. The Team Unify website is not used for registration. Your registration will be completed through the Mason Community Center WebTrac platform at Imaginemason.org. Check back once tryouts are complete for an updated link.
How is registration completed?
All registration processing is done through the Community Center web portal at Imaginemason.org. If you do not already have an account, please set up your log in and password prior to registering. Registration information and instructions will be sent via email once you have confirmed your invite to join the program and have been added to the Manta Rays Team Unify website.
